Jaguar Land Rover is the latest car manufacturer to wake up to the threat that Tesla poses to their market

Having seen that a large, high-end SUV can be built to be quick, desirable, seat seven and really expensive,  Jaguar Land Rover is the latest car manufacturer to wake up to the threat that Tesla poses to their market.  The Model X threatens to do to SUV sales what the S has done to luxury saloon/sedan sales, the Tesla S now accounting for a third of all such cars sold in the US market in 2016.

Land Rover makes most of its profits from high end 4x4s so the announcement that they are to launch their first all-electric model is timely. The report, in CityAM, is vague on detail as to the market segment this car will slot into or indeed the expected date of the launch but this is further evidence that the shift to electric transport is gathering pace.
